Quinta Casa Branca’s history begins in the mid-19th century when the British ancestors of the current owners, the Leacock family, planted vines and banana trees on an area of 6 hectares. Descendants of John Leacock, initiator of the Madeira wine trade with England in the mid-18th century, the family was one of the largest producers of this wine until 1925. The name of Leacock remains: it is still one of the Madeira Wine brands. Quinta da Casa Branca is a large garden in this agricultural past. Due to its exceptional location, the Leacock family, was convinced by an architect friend to develop a unique design hotel on the island. Fully integrated into the vegetation, the first building was opened in 1998. In 2002, new rooms were built, the building now spans an L which closes the field towards the Sun and the gardens.

The Manor House dating from the XX century, nestled amidst lush sub-tropical gardens positioned at the lower level of the property in front of the contemporary new Quinta da Casa Branca, is an elegant and luxurious Manor House housing home to the hotel’s 5 Luxury Manor House Suites. This part of the estate was formerly the private residence of the family who own the hotel, former Madeira wine merchants. The Manor house also houses a restaurant and a library. The bar, in the hotel grounds, which not only serves drinks and cocktails but is also a type of bristo/restaurant at dinner time from 19h00 to 22h00 where it is possible to have dinner, it is for casual dinner/light dinners. The hotel’s A La Carte restaurant is in the Manor House and is called “The Dining Room” restaurant offering a fine dining and gourmet cuisine with the signature of their Chef. Half-board guests have dinner in the restaurant of the Manor House and is a set menu with 3 dishes excluding drinks.
Casa Branca has 49 rooms in total including 5 Manor House Suites in the Manor House and 1 separate Villa. They are decorated with contemporary style and furnished with simple and functional pieces, some with balcony and most with terraces as they open to the large lawn area. Each room is equipped with air-conditioning, TV, direct dial telephone, safe, hairdryer, minibar, bathrobes and slippers, complimentary Wi-Fi and private en-suite facilities. All rooms have complimentary tea & coffee making facilities, suites in addition also have Nespresso machines. The decoration of the Manor House Suites are different from the rooms in the hotel building as they are decorated to match the history of the Manor House and style.
