Know someone this property would be perfect for?

La Maiella are family friendly apartments in Loreto Aprutino in Abruzzo. This hidden bolthole offers, stunning views, pool, simple apartments and the best food ever. A real agriturismo.

Halfway (approx 7km) between Loreto Aprutino, and Penne, the traditional agritourist farm of La Maiella is not far from civilisation, yet feels a world away. Down a long driveway, La Maiella seems like a hidden corner of Abruzzo, tucked away amongst rolling countryside and with beautiful views, over the wooded hillside, towards the high Maiella Mountains and the Grand Sasso. The sea is only about half an hour away from La Maiella making it the perfect spot for families.

The 26-hectare farm of La Maiella, with 11 hectares of woods, grows kiwi, cereals, olives and grapes. La Maiella rears chickens, ducks, turkeys and rabbits. Food and wine is mostly organically produced, and they will happily cater for vegetarian and gluten-free diets (in fact, they have a few secrets up their sleeve if you wish to avoid gluten, but love pasta and pizza!).

The owner loves Abruzzo with a passion and happily helps guests plan their trips and days out beyond Citta Sant’Angelo. At La Maiella, you are not just guests, but friends, who receive the very best of welcomes, often dining with the owner and family, sampling the genuine and time-honoured recipes of the regions of Abruzzo, with some secrets thrown in. Long Travel clients have always been in awe of the hospitality.

La Maiella’s sunny yellow farmhouse is quite gracious, standing amongst well-tended lawns and natural landscape. Accommodation in the main house of La Maiella, in chalet style buildings in the grounds, or in converted farm buildings, is simple and unsophisticated, but tasteful – perfectly suited to its rustic country environment. There is a lounge/ games/ TV/ reading room and a brick-vaulted dining room. The swimming pool, on a sunny terrace, is absolutely beautiful and really makes the most of this stunning location.

A rural setting such as this is difficult to beat. If you love natural surroundings, fantastic food, really great wine and supreme hospitality, a holiday at La Maiella is always a treat for both couples and families.

“The food, even if we weren’t exactly sure what we had ordered, was delicious – lovely pasta and vegetables in particular, and as for the tiramisu….As my husband Pete said (who needed convincing when I suggested agritourism!) the bar has been raised again. All in all, another great holiday; fabulous scenery, wonderful weather, and excellent places to stay. Thank you Long Travel! ” Helen and Pete, Leicester

“All in all we have had a superb holiday and are desperate to return. Thanks to you all for a GREAT two weeks. ” June, David and Billy, Monaco

“What can we say-we just loved it! The owner and his team were fantastic – food was fabulous and the company excellent. The dogs and cats were a welcome addition to the experience for us animal lovers! ” Michael & Judith, Hexham

“This was a great location for a family holiday – the animals kept the children entertained. Food wonderful! ” Jane, Staines

“The food was delicious and Nonna (who cooked) was lovely. She takes great pride in her work. We spent enjoyable evenings sitting at the long table on the terrace eating lovely food and drinking tasty local wine and chatting under the stars. Thank you again for your recommendation, we thoroughly enjoyed Abruzzo. Look forward to next year’s brochure. ” Judy, Solihull

Steve Bleach wrote for The Sunday Times, “….this isolated agriturismo outpost goes down a storm with kids. It’s family heaven. When you’re bored of cooking, the owner’s mother will serve up sensational dinners using produce from the 26-hectare farm, together with locally-sourced organic ingredients. “

ABOUT Loreto Aprutino

The origin of the name "Loreto" is difficult to establish conclusively, but among various theories, two seem the most likely. The first is that migrants from ancient Latium, - specifically, from a place called Laurentum - were the founders of a settlement that became known as Loreto. The second, more commonly accepted idea is that the name comes from the Latin word laurum (laurel) which referred to a laurel forest that was in the area at the time of the Romans. Read More...
