Sorrento

We love the undiscovered area of the Sorrento peninsula & Massa Lubrense here at Long Travel. What a shame that many visitors head straight for the Amalfi Coast and miss this spectacularly beautiful peninsula. A more tranquil option than Ischia, Naples or the Amalfi, it is a good base for visiting them all, and it is also noteworthy, in its own right.

The views are amazing. In places, Capri looks so close that you could swim to it (but don’t try it!). Quaint villages and picturesque harbours, coves and beaches are dotted along the coast, which is also part of an important marine reserve.

For nature-lovers, walkers and those who love to be off the beaten track, there are over 100km of marked trails, an intricate network of paths, mule tracks, lanes (and roads, in places), which often link small villages and hamlets. These walks will take you through terraces of lemon & olive groves, copses of chestnut & oak and beautiful typically Mediterranean vegetation – broom, myrtle, juniper, rosemary & agave. Sea & mountains merge, giving spectacular panoramas of cliffs dropping steeply to the sea, Saracen towers & magnificent views of the coast.

If you love nature, walking, swimming and beautiful beaches, this part of the Sorrento Peninsula is certainly for you. A protected marine park, the coast boasts some of the most beautiful beaches of the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento Peninsula. Don’t be surprised if you see celebs like Bill Gates or Elton John, who are known to pop across from Capri to enjoy a meal. The sea is usually crystal clear and startlingly turquoise blue.

You can usually hire boats or book a ride on one of the trips, which take you to fabulous beaches, close by, which can only be reached by sea, or to Capri, which can be reached in less than half an hour. There are also some footpaths to other stunning coves, which are well worth the effort of discovering. All in all, this is a slice of paradise and Long Travel clients have been returning year on year for a spot of tranquility.
