Up to £300 off per person during summer 2019 stays.
Arrive at Keflavík International Airport and pick up your hire car and make your way to Reykjavik (the drive is around 45 mins).
Arrive at Hotel Borg and then have time for the rest of the day to continue to explore the city.
We recommend you take advance of one of the great experiences we can offer you such as a Whale watching cruise, puffin watching cruise or if you are feeling even more adventurous a helicopter tour over Reykjavik with a possibility of a mountain top landing.
After breakfast at Hotel Borg you can then take drive to the famous golden circle Iceland's ruggedly beautiful and tectonically active landscape offers some amazing natural attractions, we recommend the order being Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Strokkur Geysir.
If you want to beat the crowds, you can get up at the crack of dawn and leave then, spending the full day exploring and relaxing along the way.
However you can do the circle in the afternoon, or even in the evening. During summertime the nights don't get dark, so you could even go during night time and visit the attractions under the midnight sun. The drive is around 3 hours with the shortest route, so you could do the whole circle in as little as 5/6 hours hours with stops or obviously, you could also spend a lot longer doing it.
On the southern part of the circle loop you can then head off from Strokkur Geysir via road 359 and 30 and this will take you through Flúðir where you could also visit Friðheimar and the secret lagoon before arriving at Hotel 360 where you will be staying for the night.
After breakfast at Hotel 360 you can explore the South Coast of Iceland. This area is famed for its wealth of landmarks and dramatically diverse scenery, all of which is visible from the road as you drive.
You will be able to visit the impressive waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Between these waterfalls, you may see Eyjafjallajökull, the sub-glacial volcano that erupted in 2010 and famously halted European air traffic.
Continuing along route 1 to the black sand beach Reynisfjara, which is famous for its fascinating geology, with the Reynisdrangar sea stacks and Dyrhólaey rock arch , which are great for birdwatching. You can spend a little time in Vik and then head to you next overnight stop at Skálakot Manor Hotel.
After breakfast at Skálakot Manor you can continue on the beautiful route 1 highway to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon bordering Vatnajökull National Park. Its still, blue waters are dotted with icebergs from the surrounding Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, part of larger Vatnajökull Glacier. The Glacier Lagoon flows through a short waterway into the Atlantic Ocean, leaving chunks of ice on a black sand beach referred to as the ‘diamond beach’
Today we recommend a visit to The Westman Islands (June-Aug).
Westman Islands is one of the wonders of nature, surrounded by mountains, islands, volcanoes (in 1973 the locals had to fle due to an eruption and one third of the homes disappeared under lava) , puffins and other seabirds. It also has one of the most beautiful and extraordinary 18 hole golf course in the world.
Herjólfur bota sails from Landeyjahöfn to the Westman Islands and is 20 mins drive from Skálakot Manor. The crossing is 35 minutes and you can keep the car at Landeyjahöfn should you not wish to take the car.
Should you not wish to visit the Islands we have some great alternatives for you:
Skálakot Manor is a farm with the famous pure breed Icelandic horses and can offer horse riding day tours. From gentle 1-hour easy horseback ride on around the beautiful surroundings of Skálakot farm, (perfect for beginners) to a 3-hour horseback riding tour where you can ride up the mountains up to 1000m above sea level, close to the volcano that erupted in 2010, with a fantastic view to the Vestman-Islands to the south, and the edge of the highland to the north.
Or why not try a geothermal pool:
Swimming pools and hot tubs are not a luxury in Iceland, they are everywhere! Since the early medieval times, the Icelandic locals have been using the geothermal water for baths.
A short drive from to the west takes you to the public swimming pool in Hvolsvöllur, to the east the public swimming pool in Vík. At Laugarvatn you’ll find the luxurious Fontana spa and at Flúðir the Secret Lagoon. And if you like to do it the Icelandic way you go to the geothermal pool Seljavallalaug. The Seljavallalaug geothermal pool is located about 15 km east of our hotel.
Day 6: After breakfast you will head back along route 1 highway to Reykjavik and stay in Sand Hotel for your final night and have some more time to explore the delights of Reykjavik.
Day 7: This morning after breakfast you will head back to Keflavík airport to head home. The drive is around 45 mins.
