This itinerary encompasses the very best of Iceland, from the Blue Lagoon, through to the black sand beach - Reynisfjara.
Revel at the staggering scenery of the famous golden circle, and pay a visit to some the most amazing natural attractions including Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Strokkur Geysir.
Arrive at Keflavík International Airport and pick up your hire car and make your way to the blue lagoon resort (The drive is around 25 mins).
Arrive at Hotel Blue lagoon Resort and settle in and of course visit the lagoon itself.
The beautiful milky-blue opaque water makes a stark contrast to the surrounding black lava field covered with dark green moss.
The Blue Lagoon is a large lake that has the perfect temperature to bathe in, on average it's 39°C/102°F.
If you want to treat yourself further you can visit the resort spa and book yourself a treatment!
After breakfast at The Retreat Hotel you can then take drive to the famous golden circle Iceland's ruggedly beautiful and tectonically active landscape offers some amazing natural attractions, we recommend the order being Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Strokkur Geysir.
If you want to beat the crowds, you can get up at the crack of dawn and leave then, spending the full day exploring and relaxing along the way. However you can do the circle in the afternoon, or even in the evening. During summertime the nights don't get dark, so you could even go during night time and visit the attractions under the midnight sun. The drive is around 3 hours with the shortest route, so you could do the whole circle in as little as 5-6 hours with stops or obviously, you could also spend a lot longer doing it.
On the southern part of the circle loop you can then head off from Strokkur Geysir via road 359 and 30 and this will take you through Flúðir where you could also visit Friðheimar and the secret lagoon before arriving at Hotel Ranga where you will be staying for the night.
After breakfast at Hotel Ranga you can explore the South Coast of Iceland. This area is famed for its wealth of landmarks and dramatically diverse scenery, all of which is visible from the road as you drive.
You will be able to visit the impressive waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Between these waterfalls, you may see Eyjafjallajökull, the sub-glacial volcano that erupted in 2010 and famously halted European air traffic.
Continuing along route 1 you will head to your next stop the Fosshotel Glacier lagoon. On the way you will pass the town of Vik, the black sand beach Reynisfjara and Reynisdrangar sea stacks which we recommend you save for a visit on your way back up route 1 later in the week.
After breakfast at Fosshotel Glacier lagoon we recommend you head to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon bordering Vatnajökull National Park. Its still, blue waters are dotted with icebergs from the surrounding Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier, part of larger Vatnajökull Glacier.
The Glacier Lagoon flows through a short waterway into the Atlantic Ocean, leaving chunks of ice on a black sand beach referred to as the ‘diamond beach’
This morning you can start your drive back up route 1 highway towards Reykjavik and stopping at the black sand beach Reynisfjara, which is famous for its fascinating geology, with the Reynisdrangar sea stacks and Dyrhólaey rock arch which are full of birdlife.
You can spend a little time in Vik before making your way to Umi hotel your next overnight stop. You may even get a chance to visit a nearby geothermal pool for a little more relaxing after you drive.
After breakfast you will head back along route 1 highway to Reykjavik for your final night’s stay at Sand Hotel for you final night and have some more time to explore the delights of Reykjavik.
The drive back to Reykjavik is around 2 hours without stops but of course you should factor in stopping to see parts of the beautiful coastal area you may have missed on the way down.
In the afternoon we have arranged a helicopter tour of Reykjavik with a mountain top landing to round your stay in Iceland off in a special way.
This morning after breakfast you will head back to Keflavík airport to head home. The drive is around 45 mins.
