Escape to Iceland, and explore all that this sparsely-populated North Atlantic island has to offer. Famous for hot springs, and active volcanoes, discover all that Iceland had to offer.
This itinerary is available to tailor-make to your exact requirements, just how a holiday should be.
Arrive at Keflavík International Airport. Pick up your hire car and drive (45 mins) to Reykjavik. Arrive at Sand Hotel then spend the rest of the day exploring the charms of the city.
Continue exploring the city or take a fabulous cruise to see the spectacular Northern lights or if you are feeling more adventurous take a helicopter tour over Reykjavik with a possibility of a mountain top landing.
In the evening why not venture out and try some of the amazing gastronomy that Reykjavik has to offer.
After breakfast at Sand Hotel you can then drive to the famous golden circle Iceland's ruggedly beautiful and tectonically active landscape offers some amazing natural attractions, we recommend the order being Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and Strokkur Geysir.
The drive is around 3 hours with the shortest route, so you could do the whole circle in as little as 5-6 hours with stops. Winter days are also shorter, with only 5-6 hours of daylight in November through January (10:30am to 4pm are the daylight hours on average).
On the southern part of the circle loop you can then head off passing the small towns of Selfos and Hella and arrive at Hotel Ranga where you will be staying for the night.
You may not want to take the absolute shortest route according to GPS and we would always advise checking road conditions on the safetravel.is website.
If you take the shortest route you could stop at Flúðir where you could also visit Friðheimar or the secret lagoon.
Should conditions be perfect you will may even get the chance to see the Northern Lights (best between October-Feb), but of course there is no guarantee.
After breakfast at Hotel Ranga you can explore the South Coast of Iceland. This area is famed for its wealth of landmarks and dramatically diverse scenery, all of which is visible from the road as you drive.
You will be able to visit the impressive waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Between these waterfalls, you may see Eyjafjallajökull, the sub-glacial volcano that erupted in 2010 and famously halted European air traffic.
You can continue along route 1 to the black sand beach Reynisfjara, which is famous for its fascinating geology, with the Reynisdrangar sea stacks and Dyrhólaey rock arch and spend a little time in the town of Vik.
Once again should conditions be perfect you will may get the chance to see the Northern Lights but of course this is no guarantee.
This morning after breakfast you will head back to Keflavík airport to head home. The drive is around 1 hour 50 mins however allow longer in the winter period.
