Viseu is located in the heart of Central Portugal, is as old as the Portuguese history dating to Roman times and also the birth place of Renaissance artist Vasco Fernandes.
There are plenty things to do and see in this beautiful ancient city. The cobbled streets of the well preserved historic city have stories to tell the wondering minds. Stroll through these streets and you will be impressed with what you find and experience as narrow streets with traditional shops spread out in a mediaeval layout from Rossio are a delight to explore. The Rua Direita and Rua Escura with their 16th century houses retaining gargoyles and Gothic windows, and Quatro Esquinas (Four Corners) where one of the city gates once stood. The religious art and architecture is dominant throughout the city and fine examples can be seen from the Religious Art Museum and the Cathedral to many other small and large churches.
