Famagusta

Home / North Cyprus/ Famagusta & Karpaz/ Famagusta
The city is nowadays called the ghost city is crumbling and deteriorating and still waiting for its makeover as it has been lined at peace negotiations on the island for the last 40 odd years.

It was at the beautiful St. Nicholas Cathedral that Lusignans crowned their Kings and build 365 churches throughout the city for worshippers. The Ottomans converted the cathedral into a mosque and it is now a museum under protection.

The Old City’s narrow streets are full of small shops, where locals display their wares, from fine examples of silver, copper and ceramic work, to fresh fruit and vegetables, not to mention the finest pastries and lokum (Turkish Delight) on the island.
