The nearest seaside town to the Croatian Border, Herceg Novi is a typical charming Montenegrin coastal town offering good holiday choices for people looking for sea, sun and history. It is famous for its almost year-round sunshine and numerous flights of stairs.
The beautiful mimosa trees decorate the silhouette of the town along with its many colourful pants and seasonal flowers, almost like a painting from an artist’s brush.
In the centre of Herceg Novi is the Old Town of Stari Grad, filled with historic buildings dating back to the 15th century and beyond. Fortress Spanjola (1538) and Fortress Forte Mare (1687) are only a part of the cultural heritage of this renowned town.
Towards the end of January, the town becomes scented with the subtle fragrance of yellow and green mimosas. There is also a special festival dedicated to this flower, called Praznik Mimosa, celebrated by the locals. Throughout the summer season, you are sure to find many small and large festivals organised by the locals creating a cultural hub in this enchanted town.
