History of the Hotel
The building that now houses Casa Azzoguidi dates back to the 13th century and proudly retains its original medieval portico, which today shelters the hotel’s elegant and refined restaurant. Originally owned by the powerful Azzoguidi family—honoured by a prominent commemorative plaque—the structure has undergone various restorations over the centuries.
Notable features from the 15th century remain beautifully preserved, including the frescoed coffered ceilings in the prestigious First Floor Suites. These intricate details reflect the building’s rich artistic heritage, as does the exquisite oil-on-canvas depiction of the Madonna and Child, which adds a touch of timeless grace to the room it adorns.
In contrast, the hotel's sophisticated main hall was added in the early 20th century and showcases elegant Liberty-style plasterwork. Its most distinctive feature is a luminous glass cupola that opens in the summer months, transforming the space into a bright and airy internal courtyard—a rare and charming retreat in the heart of the city.
Situated in a pedestrian-only zone, Hotel Corona d’Oro offers a tranquil retreat amidst Bologna’s vibrant city life. Guests are within walking distance of major attractions, including the Basilica di San Petronio, the Archiginnasio, and the Fountain of Neptune. The hotel’s central location also provides easy access to shopping streets like Via dell’Indipendenza and Via Clavature.
