Think secret hideaway. Think love nest. Think luxury. Be warned, you won't want to leave. Ray & Annie are seriously considering marrying again (to each other, of course!) to go to Villa Del Golfo's luxury suites & spend the day on the exclusive private yacht. Wow! Wow! Wow!
In an elevated position, close to a rather upmarket residential area, and a 15 minute stroll to the resort of Cannigione, Villa Del Golfo overlooks the sweeping bay. The deep blue of the sea, bordered by grassy areas and pinewoods, is a breathtaking panorama, inescapable from almost every corner of this superb hotel. Like a traditional village, built into the hillside, colonnaded pathways meander between the low-rise "cottages " and terracotta roofs and it bursts with colour.
Stroll through the perfumed gardens of Villa Del Golfo, via the "viottolo romantico " (the romantic pathway), to a nest of only six luxury suites, which are jaw-droppingly beautiful. The path undulates about 200m through trees and shrubs and is an enchanting saunter, or guests can drive and park their cars near the suites.
Real romantic retreats and utterly luxurious, the suites have incredible sea views. They feel very private and very special, because each has its own spectacular, beautifully furnished terrace and pool. Your own little world, and, with the sort of personalised service you might expect at an exclusive Maldives island resort, you will be served a leisurely breakfast-cum-brunch on your terrace or in your suite, at no extra charge - you will feel very pampered. Choose to dine or lunch in your own suite from the a la carte menu, or in Villa Del Golfo's pretty Miraluna restaurant, which is well known for its barbecue grill and excellent Mediterranean cuisine. It spills out onto the terraces and is very tempting at lunchtime, or for a romantic candlelit dinner. We thoroughly enjoy the food and are impressed by the creative cuisine.
The luxury suites at Villa Del Golfo are spacious and amazingly beautiful. Like the hotel, they are modern, really stylish and quintessentially Sardinian, with typical colours, décor, furnishings and finishes, but with a modern twist. They feel rather swish, elegant and a luxurious. They have sumptuous lounges, separate lovely double bedrooms and the shower rooms are a dream. Mostly for couples, only one has an extra twin bedroom and shower and it is particularly large, on two floors, and with a massive terrace.
With the fabulous spa, pool and restaurant of the Villa del Golfo on the doorstep, the luxury suites are idyllic. As if that is not enough, pop across the road (about 200m), through the pines, to a narrow strip of beach, or take the complimentary shuttle to one of the larger beaches nearby - light golden sand, crystal transparent sea, with more colours of blue, turquoise and translucent emerald green than you could ever imagine.
An absolute must is a trip out on Villa Del Golfo's own private yacht. What a treat! It all feels rather exclusive. Captain Francesco will take you to stunning coves and bays, which you would otherwise probably never discover. He will stop off in some enchanted, secluded bay for you to have a swim and a spot of lunch on board. As he says, "It is a day dedicated to the caress of the sea breezes, the warm sunshine and the crystal sea - a day dedicated to being with nature. Taste the extraordinary natural beauty of the Sardinian sea. " I couldn't have put it better myself…and I can't wait!
So…what have we got so far? Stunning, spectacular, romantic, magical, private, special, luxurious - think secret hideaway. Think love nest. Be warned…. you won't want to leave. Ray & Annie are seriously considering marrying again (to each other, of course!) to go to Villa Del Golfo's luxury suites. Wow! Wow! Wow!
CANNIGIONE is about 15km from the Costa Smeralda. A thriving resort, especially popular in high season, it does not have the designer chic of Porto Cervo, but has a lower-key charm of its own. There are interesting little shops, selling local produce, typical seaside resort boutiques, usually a weekly market, and bars, cafes and restaurants. There are often boat trips to the Costa Smeralda and the islands of La Maddalena from the small port. Beaches in and around the area are stunning.
