Family run, views to die for. Michael loves the Tramonto D'Oro's breathtaking views & fabulous family and staff. Annie loves the ever-smiling Pepe. In fact, we adore them all.
In the centre of Praiano, overlooking the piazza and the sea, with absolutely fantastic views towards Positano and Capri, the Hotel Tramonto D'Oro has been run by the Esposito family for over 50 years. Carmela and her family never stop improving the hotel and, every year, it gets better and better. Elegant and tasteful, it feels very Mediterranean. Bedrooms are functional and some have been more recently renovated - these are usually given to guests, who book a long stay or who have a special occasion. The dining room and terraces fully benefit from the Tramonto D'Oro's spectacular location and are dominated by the impressive church dome and the stunning views of the coast.
There is a small gym, sauna and steam room. The swimming pool is on the roof, with sun terraces overlooking the sea and the village, where little streets, alleyways and steps meander to the small rocky cove at the bottom (about a 15 minute walk).
We have always enjoyed the food at Tramonto D’Oro, although there is so much choice in Praiano and along the coast. The cuisine is more like Italian home-cooking than hotel food, mixing traditional, regional and modern cuisine, and then there is the ever-smiling Pepe, our very favourite waiter, who has been with the family for 33 years. He is a very homely character, who does his best to look after everyone, as if they were family.
The Tramonto D'Oro would be a good choice for those with or without a car. We all love it and, no matter how many times we visit, those views still take our breath away.
