Boutique gourmet hotel, stylish individual, spectacular spot - an absolute must. Ray loves the taste of mountainous Sardinia, that slightly wild feel…& the food. Annie loves Su Gologone's colours, the hospitality, the "perfectly imperfect " sumptuousness…& the food.
Inland, in the east of Sardinia, little villages like Oliena, which still retain the old Sard traditions and crafts, are surrounded by steep-sided hills, caverns, gorges and lakes, more reminiscent of Scotland (with sunshine!). Set amongst this spectacular, mountain scenery, on the edge of the National Park, yet only about half an hour from the sea and beautiful beaches, Su Gologone is something of a surprise.
Famous throughout Italy for its restaurant, Su Gologone serves amazing, traditional and typical Sardinian food - a gastronomic delight - and guests here will enjoy what must be the most authentic experience of Sard cuisine. Whether it is breakfast, dinner or lunch, enormous effort and skill go into producing and serving food, with most cooked and baked in the hotel's own kitchens. It often hosts weddings and local festivities, in its four dining rooms, and there is always a great atmosphere. No visit to Sardinia can really be complete without, at least, a visit for lunch and, at best a stay for life! We always stay here - it really is irresistible!
Colourful, stylish and individual, with lovely little touches, everywhere, there is an inner courtyard, with accommodation in five two-storey buildings. There is an absolute profusion of flowers, climbers, trees and shrubs in the gardens and on the terraces. Wonderful antiques furnish Su Gologone's characterful and comfortable public rooms, which are filled with Sardinian art and locally crafted artefacts. Around every corner, there is always something to fascinate and please the eye.
The delightful swimming pool sits on a sunny, lawned terrace, which has glorious views over the surrounding countryside. Delicious light lunches are usually served nearby, in a lovely gazebo area, close to the pool. The open air jacuzzi, on an elevated corner of the terrace, is a real treat. There are also tennis courts, bikes, table-tennis and a small gym.
Giovanna and Luigi, Hotel Su Gologone's lovely owners, have a passionate "hands-on " approach to their hotel. Many guests are regulars and friendly staff offer a warm welcome to everyone. Delightful accommodation, very special food, trekking, visiting Sardinia's beautiful beaches, exploring the mountains or relaxing in the tranquility of this extraordinary landscape - this place has it all.
We always stay in Su Gologone, no matter where else we choose to go in Sardinia - it really is magical! Laura keeps reminding us that she hasn't been yet, but has always wanted to - no pressure there then!
Classic rooms usually have a view of the gardens and inner courtyard, although some face the mountains and have a small balcony. Some of these rooms have bath. Possible to add an extra bed.
Deluxe rooms have mountain or garden view and a small balcony. Some of these rooms have bath. Possible to add an extra bed.
Junior suites are particularly lovely and ideal for a honeymoon; some have a Jacuzzi large enough for two people on the terrace. A nice additional touch in these rooms - coffee-making facilities! Possible to add an extra bed.
Suites are incredibly spacious with a big terrace with mountain, garden or valley view. Some are one large room, others consist of two separate rooms. Like the junior suites, some have Jacuzzi on the terrace.
"Of all the places you have sent us over the last 10 years, this easily outstrips them all by far. We love the quirky feel of the place and the colour and the whole arty atmosphere. ….. It really is something else! Many, many thanks! "
Kay & Michael, Woodbridge
"Could not fault this place at all, the food and the wine were superb and the atmosphere very relaxing. Loved going up to the bar at the top with the view of the mountains to just order a cocktail and enjoy a good book. " Wendy & Andy, Bakewell
"Thanks for organising our trip to Sardinia, we had a great time. We loved Su Gologone - my idea of heaven - great food, great scenery, by the mountains, comfortable rooms…we must go back. " Jane and Nigel, Chester
Richard Hammond, writing for The Guardian, described Hotel Su Gologone as "a stylish country hotel. "
The Mirror said, "It's one of the most famous restaurants in Italy - serving typical Sardinian food, but you can stay here too. Set high in the mountains, it's stylish and comfortable."
“The hotel was everything you had promised and we loved it." Ellie, Oxford
