Southern Italy is an ideal destination for a short break as there is now an abundance of flights to choose from, which has made it all the more accessible – fantastic coastline, wonderful food and wine and cities full of culture.

Experience all that Naples has on offer in a long weekend, stay at the San Francesco al Monte, high above the city with breathtaking views of Vesuvius. The wonderful rooftop pool is the ideal place to relax after a long day shopping on the Via Toledo or a day trip to Ravello, Positano or one of the other towns dotted along Amalfi's famous coastline.

Or, if you need to relax and really unwind for a few days, there is nowhere better than the majestic Villa Las Tronas, once home to Italian royalty, it stands alone on a small promontory jutting out into the sea with an inviting swimming pool. Only a short stroll along the promenade from the old town of Alghero, it's the ideal antidote to a busy life.
