Urban chic living & ultra-contemporary style in historic centre. Wow! Ray & Annie love that Monoresort is in the beating heart of their favourite Baroque town and they thoroughly enjoyed the sumptuous comfort.

In the tumble of Modica's old, narrow streets and alleyways, right in the heart of the centro storico, Monoresort's apartments are a wonderful surprise. Rows of houses, up steps, down steps, some inhabited, some not, this is no designer village, it is a real authentic slice of Sicilian town life, full of character and typical.

A completely new concept of holiday, where 17th century Baroque meets 21st century modern design and technology, Monoresort's aim is privacy, supreme comfort and independence for all its guests and, from the moment you arrive at the Monoresort "Welcome House " you will be greeted with friendliness and great personal attention.

All of the Monoresort apartments are unique little townhouses, scattered throughout the centro storico, well away from one another, but in secret corners and in terraces of other houses, so that you feel really immersed in local life. Like all of Modica's centro storico, you enter your Monoresort apartment from the narrow street or alleyway and, to arrive at it, there are usually steps and cobbled streets to negotiate. Never far from the main street, you'll soon get used to strolling through the maze of old streets, and up and down steps, to get to and from it.

Once inside the apartments, what havens they are! In complete contrast to their quaint locations, they are superlative examples of urban chic living and ultra-contemporary style. Enhancing the beautiful original architecture are designer furnishings, vibrant artworks, state-of-the-art shower rooms and seemingly more technological gismos than you can shake a hat at! The kitchen areas are small, but perfectly formed, a joy and stocked with a very appealing "Gentleman's Agreement Bar " - an honesty bar, to you and me!

If you tire of sightseeing in the amazing Modica (and we bet you won’t!), local beaches are only about 15 minutes or so, by car. We love the golden sandy beaches and transparent sea and admit that they have tempted us away from our more cultural activities, at times. Wow! We love everything about Monoresort.

MODICA
Modica is arguably one of the most interesting slices of Baroque in this corner of Sicily. It certainly is at the very centre of the main Baroque towns, so makes an ideal base for visiting any of them. It spreads up two sides of a steep ravine, like layers of a cake. Dramatic and beautiful, its tiers of houses cling to the hillsides and churches dominate the skyline. Known as "the town of a hundred churches " its bells ring the passing of time, but Modica seems not to notice, feeling as if time has stood still somehow. Its main street is full of incredible and fascinating architecture, which creates a breathtaking backdrop - you simply cannot help but be impressed by it. As well as its fabulous shops and restaurants, you will see ostentatious palazzi, beautiful old churches, impressive cathedrals and grinning gargoyles that seem to watch you from beneath every balcony!

Modica is a busy and bustling place, full of life and feels typically Italian and 'lived in' - it's lovely to stroll around, day or night, to absorb the very Sicilian atmosphere and to enjoy a spot of great shopping in its chic, designer shops. Staying here gives you a real taste of a particularly appealing, modern day Sicilian way of life.

Not only is Modica famous for its art and architecture, but also for its chocolate. They still use the ancient Aztecs' traditional recipe and a chocolate festival is held each year, in March. There are some specialist cafés and shops where you can sample the town's peculiar flavoured chocolate - try the famous chilli chocolate!

It is a truly wonderful town and one of our favourites in Sicily.

Enhancing the beautiful original architecture are designer furnishings, vibrant artworks, state-of-the-art shower rooms and more technological gismos than you can shake a hat at! Featured at no. 10 in Steve Bleach's Sunday Times 100 Best Holidays 2012 - Steve loves the combination of 17th Century architecture with modern creature comforts, the fabulous staff and the wonderful "higgledy-piggledy historic centre of Modica". He writes, "Is it a hotel? Is it a bunch of houses? We don't know and we don't much care, because Monoresort looks fab." We quite agree, Monoresort is Fab!!!

Roland Ellison, commercial editor for the Mirror online wrote...

We opted for a self-catering flat just a few flights from the centre. I say ‘self-catering’, but behind the unassuming doors of our digs lay a Tardis-like two-storey apartment, complete with wine in the fridge, cooking essentials at the ready, DVDs, books and a well-stocked bar with an honesty box - now that’s living. Born of boss Valerio Molinari’s deep-seated hatred of hotels, which he’s built up over years of business travel, the concept of Monoresort self-catering accommodation is to give you all the privacy and relaxation of being in your own space, with the comfort of a five-star hotel. We could have stayed in Modica for a week, and it was with heavy hearts that we bade farewell to Enrica.  To read Roland's article in full, click here.

“Modica is such a wonderful place, we loved being part of such a vibrant town. We were really spoilt by the concierge, who really looked after us well.” Giles & Milly, Bath
