Sea, massive pool, stylish with superb food - hard to beat & great value. Paul thinks it has something for everyone. Annie loves the relaxed atmosphere and the fantastic food, with a "kitchen garden approach ", which is surprising in a hotel. Fabulous!
Near Ostuni and only 300m from the shores of the sparkling Adriatic the carefully restored Masseria Santa Lucia, painted a pinkish terracotta, certainly looks picturesque, against the blue, blue sky and sea. With a more modern feel than some masserie, it is a skilful and extremely tasteful blend of old and new. The stylish surroundings, fresh décor and very modern terraces make it feel boutique, at times. The gym, with sauna and jacuzzi, is small, but a real peach. There is so much open space, good facilities and great food that it is an excellent choice for those wishing to relax. Its strategic location also makes it a perfect choice for those wanting to explore Puglia. We all love this place.
The spectacular pool is set in lush gardens, which are typically Mediterranean, but feel almost tropical, in places. There is a floodlit tennis court and an unusual amphitheatre, where entertainment is sometimes provided, in the summer. The masseria's private sea terraces - lawns and decked areas, with sunbeds, umbrellas and steps into the sea - are only a short stroll through the grounds and are truly spectacular. Alternatively, a regular minibus/buggy service will take you to the small, sandy private beach, close by. Further along, is another slightly larger, sandy cove.
At times, there is a piano-bar in the bar and special "Serate Pugliesi " (Pugliese evenings), with typical regional music and food. Great fun, guests meet and chat and it's a real experience. We have enjoyed many, especially the wonderful buffet of Pugliese dishes and the musical entertainment.
The pleasant rooms, all on the ground floor, have a small garden terrace, perfect for that private, romantic drink! Some are located in the main hotel. Others are a couple of hundred metres, through the gardens, towards the sea, and have been built as low structures, so that they do not intrude on the landscape. Some of these can be communicating rooms, providing an exceptionally good solution for families or couples, who want to be near to one another, but still with privacy. Public areas in Masseria Santa Lucia are spacious and airy, feeling really elegant. In summer, dinner served in the orangerie (a walled courtyard, with tables amongst orange trees, lemon trees and vines) is absolutely delightful.
Clients constantly return to this hotel, complimenting it for its friendly staff and delicious food. We are always impressed by the quality of the cuisine. The Manager, passionate about food, loves the Pugliese evenings, when guests savour some really traditional dishes, which they might otherwise not try. His kitchen garden, growing figs, prickly pears, tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers, melon, watermelon and many other vegetables, provides the freshest of ingredients for the kitchen. He is our sort of guy!
We would like to congratulate this hotel on gaining the "EU Ecolabel ". The first in Puglia to achieve this, awarded for contributions to sustainable tourism, environmental issues and quality - well done, Masseria Santa Lucia!
