Dating back to the 15th century, when the original watchtower was used, by the Knights of Malta, to guard against the Saracens, the Masseria San Domenico is less than a kilometre from the sea, and close to the quaint fishing village of Savelletri. Absolutely beautiful, it is set in 60 hectares of extensive grounds of ancient olive trees (some over 1,000 years old), exotic palms and landscaped gardens.
Imposing and impressive, Masseria San Domenico is a very special place indeed. Privately owned, it has been furnished largely with antiques and there are lots of personal touches, which make it feel more like a home than a hotel. Sitting rooms and terraces are comfortable and welcoming, as is the bar. The restaurant, formerly the stables, has an amazing star-vaulted ceiling and an enormous open fireplace and the service is predictably impeccable. In summer, meals are often taken outside, on one of the terraces. The whole atmosphere is one of tranquillity and sophistication and it all feels very tasteful, stylish and luxurious.
In its lush green gardens is a truly splendid and unusual sea-water swimming pool, which is landscaped into the rock. There are two hardcore, floodlit tennis courts and bicycles for guests to use. There is a truly fabulous spa, a well-equipped beauty centre, with sauna, jacuzzi, steam room, indoor heated pool and small gym, where guests can also treat themselves to a variety of treatments, massages and seaweed therapy(!!). At times, in summer, the tennis courts are given over to concerts (usually classical) and ballet, which guests are welcome to attend.
Approximately 500m away, Masseria San Domenico's private sandy beach is lovely and, within about 4km, is the world-famous San Domenico Golf Course. With superb views of the sea, from almost every part of it, it is much acclaimed and challenging, especially on a windy day!
With five stars and an L, the Masseria San Domenico certainly puts the L in traditional luxury. It is perfect for that "special occasion " holiday or for those who like to pamper themselves.

Classic rooms are smallest and are used for single travellers only.
Superior rooms are bright and spacious. They are located on the first floor and offer a delightful garden or courtyard view.
Deluxe rooms are tastefully furnished, on the ground floor, close to the Spa. These rooms overlook the olive groves and have a small private patio equipped with table and chairs: the perfect place to relax or have breakfast.
Junior Suites are spacious and beautifully decorated, located on the ground floor and offer a charming garden view. The Junior Suite comprises bedroom with a comfortable open plan living room and spacious bathroom with separate shower cubicle. Although there is no balcony, there are two windows overlooking the sunny courtyards.
