Virtually equidistant between Ostuni and Cisternino (approx 7km), this boutique masseria is so lovely and everything about it shouts "Puglia ".
The charming Teo, Roberto and family (and the docile Leonida, their blonde dog) run Masseria Cervarolo with a quiet, but distinct passion. They chose this place - or maybe it chose them? They sought to leave the hurly-burly of a hectic city life in Bari, where they sold musical instruments, to seek out a more tranquil existence and a better quality of life, in a place of real beauty, preserving all that is best about Puglia. The masseria fits the bill perfectly, as their family home, and also as a haven for its guests. It has a serenity about it, which reflects their personality and chosen lifestyle.
A mixture of masseria and trulli, with little courtyards and stone pathways, the limestone building gleams in its picturesque landscape. Not over-restored, the family aimed to change as little as possible and the result is stunning. The whole place has a comfortable simplicity and this rather contemporary, rustic chic style really suits it. Very environmentally aware, modern facilities are discreet, made to blend in with the ambience of the masseria. Furnishings and fabrics are traditional, usually hand-crafted by local artisans. Staying here is like being in someone's country home, relaxed and comfortable - exactly what they wanted.
Masseria Cervarolo is a garden enthusiast's paradise and the gardens are a dream. Lush green lawns, cascading terraces and flower beds, teeming with colour, striking shocking pink bougainvillea against honey-coloured walls - it is a picture. The pool is superb, hewn out of natural rock, like a gift of nature. An ancient lamia invites guests to relax and renew "the body and the spirit ".
The restaurant, in a separate building (and under a lovely covered terrace), serves fantastic, typical country Pugliese food and Pugliese wines. It is an enchanting space, with a huge glass window into the kitchen, which allows guests to watch the talented chef at work. The real heart of Masseria Cervarolo, the chef often offers his guests cookery lessons, wine and olive oil tastings here, too.
Wow - what a place! Masseria Cervarolo's almost dreamlike serenity is utterly captivating and VERY romantic. It feels exclusive and we love it.
Rooms are in trulli or in the masseria and usually have uncovered access from external stone staircases or from the gardens. All are comfortable, although purposely not over-furnished, in a contemporary rustic chic style, with stone or polished cement floors. Showers are often the wet room type and shower rooms can be quite small. Wardrobes & hanging space may be in the shower room. The Superior & Junior Suites are more characterful and we prefer them.
