Masseria Bosco - 4 Star Boutique Hotel, Avetrana, Puglia

Masseria Bosco has huge character and personality, massive popularity with clients, and amazing and abundant cuisine. It is just fabulous and that's a fact!

 

This masseria is in one of the lesser-known parts of Puglia, in a rural setting, surrounded by 110,000 olive trees, and with a wonderful swimming pool. 2km from Avetrana and more or less equidistant (43km) from Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto, it is perfect for exploring some of the Salento's "hidden " Puglia, as well as its important historic cities. The beautiful Ionian sea, with its sandy beaches is also only about 8km away.

 

A great choice for food-lovers, the cuisine, based on local and Pugliese recipes, is superb, plentiful and flavoursome. Very well-known locally, the masseria has a well-deserved reputation for the fantastic seasonal food it serves, which is often quite unusual and always with the focus very much on 'slow food'. Still a working farm, with 100 hectares of olive trees, and lemon and orange groves, an uncle cultivates mostly organic vegetables, which end up on the table, in the restaurant.

 

Against a backdrop of agricultural land and thousands of silvery green olive trees, the 18th century Masseria Bosco's mellow, yellowish stone, seems to glow in any light. Masseria Strazzati, 400 metres through the olive groves, is similar in style and both ooze character. Restored with loving care, the very personal touch of Lucia and her daughter, Pierangela, is very evident. They both adore everything Pugliese and traditional, and they have captured the atmosphere of a warm and welcoming rustic environment, which is comfortable and tasteful, all the while, closely supervised by their soppy Dalmatians, Mozart, Camilla and Perla.

 

The restaurant in Masseria Bosco, has a star-vaulted, stone ceiling and stone walls (spot the fossils!), solid wooden furniture and typically Pugliese tableware, creating a really authentic atmosphere and giving just the sort of rustic experience that Lucia and Pierangela are aiming for. In summer, dinner and sometimes the buffet breakfast, are served on an outside stone colonnaded terrace. (Strazzati guests have their own lovely breakfast room, bar and lounge, and will use Bosco only for other meals.)

 

On a walled terrace, there is a lovely, large pool for both masserie, surrounded by dry stone walls, orange, pomegranate and fig trees, and with a very unusual bar!

 

Bedrooms have original vaulted ceilings, exposed stone, traditionally tiled floors, earthy warm colours, complimented by powerfully-coloured, bright ceramic tiles. The furniture is a mixture of locally crafted, classic ironwork and "arte povera " wood and antiques, which gives the rooms a real rustic elegance.

 

This masseria gets better every time we visit and clients love it.

Standard and Deluxe rooms are on the ground floor.

 

Deluxe rooms are more spacious and comfortable - these are our preferred rooms, particularly as the cost to upgrade is so reasonable.

 

Junior suites are spacious and can accommodate four people.

 

The Deluxe suite & Suite Bosco are also large enough for four people and have fabulous views
