Agritourist apartments, rooms & pool, close to the sea, rustic charm, great food. Paul loves La Gaia's elevated position, closeness to sea - and he has a special soft spot for Gaia, too!
One of the few (if not the only) agriturismo with views to the sea, which is only 4km away, La Gaia is near the resort of Silvi Marina, in lovely open countryside, and with a lake and a wood. The working farm grows cereal and vegetable crops, and cultivates its olive groves and orchards and, run by brother and sister, Andrea and Gaia, it has a warm, family atmosphere.
Like a small hamlet, or "borgo ", with a scattering of rural buildings and a main house, La Gaia has a real country style, completely at one with its idyllic rural setting. Il Fienile, the former hay barn, La Piccionaia, the old pigeon loft, and Casolare Centrale, the original farmhouse, are home to the restaurant and rooms. The centrepieces of the borgo, this is La Gaia's beating heart and there is always a smiling face and a warm welcome. The apartments are about 150m up the hill, in a tranquil location, yet only a stroll to the centre of the borgo.
The restaurant, in the main house, and the small "piazza ", just outside, really create a focal point for La Gaia and its guests. Warm and welcoming, the restaurant, which is also a popular choice with the locals, serves delicious and wholesome, home-made and typical Abruzzo fare. In summer, guests can dine outside, and Gaia and Andrea often organise special evenings, with pizza and "arrosticini " (various meats) cooked on the barbecue and wood oven. These are great fun and past clients have really enjoyed them. Guests are also welcome to buy fruit, vegetables and home-made delights, produced on the farm.
In the grounds, and with a wonderful panorama of the sea, is a sunny terrace with La Gaia's swimming pool. Flanked by oleander and broom, with a vine-clad pergola, this and the lovely lawns around it make the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Abruzzo sunshine.
La Gaia's farmhouse, farm buildings and cottages have great character. Bedrooms, in the converted farm buildings near the main house, are simply furnished, with a mix of traditional rustic and antique. The apartments are set around a pretty courtyard garden, usually full of colour and affording a good deal of privacy to terraces. With a feeling of rustic charm, furnishings are simple, with limited storage space. Most have outside sitting areas. La Gaia is a lovely agriturismo and its location is spectacular.
