Boutique, chic & jaw-dropping views of Etna - a romantic, magical bolthole. Annie's loves Casa Etna so much, she's tempted to keep it. Such a dramatic and panoramic spot is impossible to find - beautiful inside, jacuzzi on the terrace. Oh……..the romance of it all!!
Well below the lovely
Hotel Villa Sonia, in an old stone cottage and grape press, Casa Etna sits on the world's edge. Impossible to capture in mere words, the view from the terrace is unique and utterly beautiful - a full panorama of Mount Etna and its slopes, lush green ravines and a chink of sparkling blue sea, in the very distance. Absolutely magical!
A perfect secret hideaway for a couple, Casa Etna is only for 2, but it has two bathrooms! With beautiful décor and furnishings, it feels very boutique and chic. Doors lead to a terrace, which seems to hang in mid-air, and a jacuzzi gives it that final touch of luxury.
Giuseppe and Maria, the
Villa Sonia owners, have clearly put their heart and souls into Casa Etna and it is a little jewel. Casa Etna guests can take their car down a somewhat challenging road to park near the cottage, or they can park at the top and be ferried to and from, or they can work up an appetite climbing the steps (lots of them!) and path through the gardens, to the restaurant, pool and other hotel facilities. Or, they can order from the menu in the apartment, have it delivered to their door, sip champagne in their outdoor jacuzzi whilst waiting, and then eat on their terrace. How fab and romantic is that?
Annie's had her eye on Casa Etna for years and loves it so much that she's tempted to keep it to herself. A spot as dramatic and jaw-droppingly panoramic as this is impossible to find - and it's beautiful inside and it has a jacuzzi on the terrace. Oh……..the romance of it all!!
As well as all that, Casa Etna guests have our favourite Taormina hotel on their doorstep. Within a few hundred metres of delightful Castelmola Di Taormina, the very special
Villa Sonia is in one of the best spots on Sicily for viewing Mount Etna, with totally unhindered views of the volcano, so its pool has one of THE most spectacular backdrops ever. The poolside restaurant, in summer, serves delicious lunches and snacks. The
Villa Sonia serves great food. Usually once a week Giuseppe hosts a "Buffet Sul Terrazzo ", by the pool or on the covered restaurant terrace. With music and a fantastic array of temptingly delicious food, this is always an event to remember - we have certainly had many a memorable evening. You must try it.
Casa Etna is truly a dream of a place!
CASTELMOLA DI TAORMINA
Castelmola is to Taormina as Ravello is to the Amalfi Coast. Towering, about 3km above Taormina, Castelmola has stunning views of the coast and Mount Etna. The little town is quaint and picturesque, with winding streets and alleyways, and with a more gentle pace of life than Taormina. If you mention it to Sicilians, most respond dreamily that Castelmola is a special place, held between sea and sky, and with a particular affinity to Mount Etna, which seems to watch it from a distance. Generally just as warm, but less humid, there are bars, restaurants and shops and it is a delight to stroll around.
For the adventurous (and mildly crazy!) there is a steep, stepped path to Taormina. As well as the
Villa Sonia's own shuttle, regular buses run between Castelmola and Taormina, and taxis are very reasonably priced.
CASA ETNA
A perfect secret hideaway for a couple, Casa Etna is only for 2, but it has two bathrooms! With beautiful décor and furnishings, it feels very boutique and chic. Doors lead to a terrace, which seems to hang in mid-air, and a jacuzzi pool gives it that final touch of luxury.
Very characterful, with rich, deep colours, panels and walls of natural stone, antique panelled doors and dark wooden furniture. Living/dining room, absolutely delightful kitchen corner, door to terrace; bathroom, jacuzzi bath and shower; double bedroom, small en-suite shower room, doors to balcony. Terrace with jacuzzi.
Casa Etna is truly a dream of a place! It is SO romantic. We absolutely love it and can't praise it enough.
"How do you find these places? A dream of a place in a location to die for - thank you so much." Anna & Julian, London
"We couldn't have chosen a more beautiful cottage or a more romantic spot for our honeymoon. Amazing!" Jess & Tim, High Wycombe
Steve Bleach wrote for The Sunday Times, "The best view in Sicily? It has to be from the pool terrace at Villa Sonia, Castelmola. The hotel is set on a craggy perch high above pretty Taormina - and there's nothing between you and Etna. It's bewitching by day, and even more so during nature's nightly fireworks. "
"Having just come back from Villa Sonia, I wanted to say what a fantastic time we had. Just as described - it was everything we wanted. " Gill, Bagshot
"We have so enjoyed the staff, who couldn't have been more helpful and generous, it is like leaving friends. We have wonderful memories to keep us going as we return to normal, back in England. " Pam & David, Worthen, Shrewsbury
