Special Groups		Availability of special car groups is quite limited, but it is possible to book automatic cars, convertible cars etc. Prices vary depending on dates - please ask if you have a specific type of car in mind.
The car models shown in our table are an indication of the size and type of car for each group, they may not be the exact model you receive. All groups have limited availibility and groups G-2, H and J have limited availability and are only available at certain depots. Car suppliers make charges for a minimum period of 24 hours, therefore if the car rental period runs over a complete 24 hour period you will be charged a whole extra day's rental. Collect from one airport, drop off at another - this offers maximum flexibility by allowing you to fly into one Italian airport and fly back from another - ideal if you are choosing a two-centre holiday. Please note there is a charge for this service, payable locally - the charge varies depending on car size and the rental locations, so please ask for further details.

For many of our properties, we would strongly recommend car hire. Consequently, for many (although not all) self-catering properties especially, car hire is included - see relevant price boxes. Where car hire is included, it is always a Group C-1 air-conditioned car, suitable for up to 4 people only. For larger properties, the car will inevitably not carry all members of the party and their luggage. It is clients’ responsibility to assess their needs (for passengers and luggage) and upgrade or book an extra car, if necessary. (Details of car hire and upgrade charges are shown in the price box above.)

Some of the more specialist vehicles can be difficult to book and they are not available at all airport depots and the availability is more limited than other cars. Please have an alternative group in mind, as a second choice.

• All cars are booked on a request basis, confirmed only when the voucher is received.

• Car types are a guide only and we cannot guarantee the exact make and model.

• For rentals of less than a week, take the weekly rate, divide by 5 and multiply by the number of days.

• For rentals of whole weeks, take the weekly rate and multiply by the number of weeks.

• For rentals of more than 7 days, take the weekly rate and add on the number of extra days required.

IT IS ESSENTIAL TO HAVE A CREDIT CARD (with a Visa or Mastercard symbol) IN THE LEAD DRIVERS NAME TO HIRE A CAR. The cost of any extras and petrol used is then billed to that credit card at the end of the rental – CASH deposits are no longer accepted.

EXCESS REIMBURSEMENT INSURANCE

Excess Reimbursement Insurance protects you from paying any insurance excess in the event of accidental
damage to your hire car, including damage to tyres, windows, wheels, underside and roof ( normal terms and conditions still apply; see section ALL PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE below). We organise this cover ourselves through a third-party specialist, NOT with the car hire provider, as we feel this gives our clients the best value for money.

If you decide NOT to take out our Excess Reimbursement Insurance, or you sign to take it out when you pick up the car, you will be charged approx €36 per day, locally, for similar cover. WE STRONGLY ADVISE clients to take out Collision Damage Excess Waiver locally, if they have not already paid the £4.50 per day to Long Travel at the time of booking. If you have not taken out any Collision Damage Excess Waiver cover and you do damage your hire car, you are liable to pay the supplier's excess of between €500 - €2600.

If you take out our Excess Reimbursement Insurance or extra insurance locally and you damage the car, you will be charged the excess by the local supplier. This insurance allows you to reclaim this charge for the excess providing you complete an accident report form on returning your car (be sure to keep a copy of this and any other documents relating to your hire car). On your return, this will have to be forwarded to the underwriter (the details are on your insurance policy) and you will receive a refund of the excess that you have paid within approx 90 days. In the event that keys are lost or damaged you will be liable for the cost of obtaining a replacement.

The vital point seems to be that, if the car is damaged in any way, you must obtain a report from the car hire office (and the police if it is serious enough for them to be involved), in order for your claim for reimbursement of the excess to be considered.

If you decide not to take any additional insurance and the car is damaged, any excess charged by the local supplier will not be refunded. Any wilful damage to the car, by the driver or its passengers will incur the full cost of the repair.

Please make it clear in the box provided in the Car Hire section of the Booking Form if you do wish to take the Excess Reimbursement Insurance.

GENERAL

• The prices shown above are for cars with unlimited mileage, collected from and returned to the airport.

• For airport pick ups, Long Travel must have correct flight numbers and timings to ensure booking.

• The rental voucher and a valid driving licence must be presented when collecting the car. We cannot be held responsible for rentals rejected if you do not have your voucher or a valid driving licence.

• When taking delivery of your car, the driver(s) will be asked to sign the car hire company’s Conditions of Hire, making the rental a direct contract between each driver and the car hire company. You should retain your rental documents for at least 28 days after returning home.

• Drivers must produce a full British driving licence held for at least one year or in some destinations, three years (in some cases an international driving licence will be required). If you have the new style licence, ensure you take all sections. Faxed or photocopied licences are not acceptable.

• Roof racks are not available. Please book a car with a large enough boot for your luggage!!

• Cars returned 1hr or more later than collected incur an extra day’s rental at local rates. No refunds are payable on cars returned early.

• Child seat belt laws - Infants up to 9 months (or 9 kgs in weight) must occupy a baby seat, usually attached to the front passenger seat. Children over 9 months, but under 4 yrs (between 9 & 18 kgs) must travel in secured child seats in the rear. Supplements for baby and child seats are payable locally and we must be informed, at the time of booking, whether an infant/child seat is required. For last minute bookings, child seats may sometimes not be available, in which case you must take your own. It is your responsibility to ensure that the seat is fixed securely, some hire companies will expect you to fix the seat yourself. Others may fit the seat for you. To be satisfied that the child seat will adhere to the safety standards one would expect in the U.K we recommend that you take your own. Any child seat provided by the car supplier will adhere only to the Italian safety standards, which are not as stringent.

• Please inform us at the time of booking, if the driver is under 25 yrs or over 65 yrs.

• You must declare any endorsements that the driver has, at the time of booking. This usually causes no problem but it is your duty to inform the car hire company through us.

• Car hire companies cannot be held responsible for flight delays. In the event of flight delays causing the car pick up time to fall outside normal office hours, clients will be liable to pay the out of hours charges locally.

• In the event of a delayed flight arriving so late that the car hire office is closed, the car may have to be collected the next day. Cars will not be delivered to the accommodation.

• During the summer months and other holiday times, throughout the year, many airlines fly into the same airport, at the same time. It is therefore fairly likely that you will need to queue to collect your hire car, during these periods.

• Clients should note that in many areas of Southern Italy, there are no local car hire depots, and, often, the airport is the nearest. Should something go wrong with the car, a replacement will not be delivered and clients will have to return to the airport to collect another car. Thankfully, this rarely happens. However, it is unavoidable, and clients should weigh this up against the joy of being in a “non-touristy” area.

There will be a 1.8% surcharge for payments made by credit card and a 2.5% surcharge for payments made by Amex. No charge for debit cards or cheques.
